Furniture & Upholstery Odor, Musty Smells

There are two categories of odors concerning furniture odor and carpet odor: surface odors (smoke, etc.) and liquid odors (perspiration, etc.).

Below are a few simple treatment steps for you to follow.

Surface Carpet & Upholstery Odors
Lightly spray the entire surface with ForceOut. You want to spray enough formula onto the surface that it is moist to the touch. Next lightly brush formula into the surface areas with a brush or your fingertips.

Let dry and smell the results. If odor is still present, re-treat the surface again and brush the formula in for maximum results. In most cases, this is all that will be required.

It's always a good idea to treat the air in the room where the furniture or carpet is located to complete the odor removal process. When treating the air in a room, go to the farthest corner of the room from the door, holding bottle over your head, spray ForceOut towards ceiling while backing out of the room.

For larger rooms where odors seem to be a persistent problem. The use of a mini-fogger (found on this site) would be more appropriate and more effective.

Liquid Carpet & Upholstery Odors
In most liquid odor removal situations, this step is all that is required to solve the problem.

Determine where the odor is strongest, that should be your main problem area. Lightly spray and brush the formula into the surface and let dry. Smell the results to see if odor elimination has taken place. By performing this step first, you can actually pinpoint where the liquid odor is easier.

For deeply embedded odors in foam padding or carpet padding, saturate area with ForceOut and let dry. Smell area to see if the odors have been eliminated.

The use of an injection syringe is also recommended to remove deep penetrated odors in upholstery foam or carpet padding. If this is the course of action, inject formula in and around the odor source spreading the shots about 4 inches apart. Test section after it has dried. Retreat as necessary.

Carpet shampooing the area is another step that will work. Add 10-12 ounces of ForceOut to the soap reservoir of the cleaning machine. Pre-treat surface by lightly spraying formula onto the surface and shampoo as normal.

Note: It's important to understand that the liquid base odors, depending on the amount of volume of the liquid spilled, could have penetrated deep into the surface. If you know what the odor issue is and understand that the formula needs to make direct contact with the odor source, ForceOut will eliminate the problem.
